Can you benifit from any of the new tax credits?
Renewal Community Tax Credit (RC) – A
Renewal Community, governed by the 2000 Renewal Tax Relief Act, is
eligible to share
in an estimated $17 billion in tax incentives.
- Businesses operating in a Renewal Community can earn
up to $1.500 for every newly hired or existing employee who lives
and works in the RC.
- Work opportunity tax credits provide businesses in
RCs up to $2,400 against their Federal tax liablity for each
employee hired from groups with traditionally high unemployment
rates or other
special employment needs.
Empowerment Zone & Enterprise Community Tax Credits (EZ/EC) – The
enterprise zone concept has been expanded to include the Empowerment
Zone/Enterprise Community program. The Empowerment Zones provide
a Federal hiring credit, along with opportunity to receive other
special financing opportunities.
- The employee and the location of employment must BOTH be located
in an Empowerment Zone to qualify
- Virtually every year, new Enterprise Zones and Communities are
created.
- Tax Credit is 20% of the first $15,000 of wages in any year.
